From a Time interview with Roger.
Q. “You recently severed your working relationship with Disney, stepping away from your television show and taking your trademarked thumbs with you. Any plans for when those thumbs might return to TV? And what do you think of the new At the Movies program, hosted by Ben Lyons and Ben Mankiewicz?”
A. “I’m pleased that Richard Roeper and I will be presenting a new movie review program, to be announced in the near future. It will involve Richard, of the Chicago Sun-Times, Michael Phillips of the Chicago Tribune and Christy Lemire of the Associated Press. I have made no public comment about what Disney has done to our show.”

Time magazine interview with Roger Ebert
I’ll be heading down to Champaign-Urbana tomorrow. Thursday evening, Roger will screen the amazing documentary “Trouble the Water,” and I’ll moderate the post-screening discussion. On Friday morning, I’ll be participating in a critics’ panel.

Cannot wait!!! I feel that I am missing out on a ton of small, independent films I may not get visibility on these other review programs.

I agree wholeheartedly with Ms. Diaz and Mr. Mason, and would like to add that it will be nice to see trustworthy reviews on the small screen again. The other review programs seem to me to be little more than propaganda pieces for the studios; all the big-budget trash films get rave reviews. Hmmmm…

Can’t wait for the return of trustworthy reviews.

I don’t know whether you know this but when Roger wrote that blog entry slamming Lyons, a paper ran a story on it and he refused to comment for the article.
Very classy move by Roger. Really nice of him to refuse to slam Lyons any further.

Can’t freaking wait.

You know what, I have nothing bad to say about Disney, as far as “At the Movies” goes, either. Have you guys seen the fantabulous job they did with the archival videos on their website? What an amazingly generous and wonderful gift. Nope. Nothing bad at all.

This is wonderful news about the new TV program; I am looking forward to it!

YES! I can’t wait…As for Roger not commenting on At the Movies, he doesn’t have to. The show speaks for itself in terms of poor quality…

I hate the fact that Roger Ebert lost his ability to speak. I hope it’s not permanent, but I still enjoy reading his reviews and glad he’s still active in one respect. I’m also glad I found your website, Richard, because I miss the original “At The Movies”. In fact, I go to atthemoviestv.com only to check on movies that were made before September 2008. Although I like Ben Manchewitz, if the review didn’t come from you, Roger Ebert, and/or Gene Siskel, I’m usually not interested in watching it.

YES!!! Been waiting for so long to hear that RR is getting back in the mix of it. I tolerate At The Movies but just barely….

This is great news, and the bit about Michael Phillips is a welcome surprise. No way to get Tony Scott on there too? He was one of my favorite fill-ins during Roger’s absence. 🙂
